Anyway for AUTO-X iv been using:

Falken Azensis 615 205/50R15 in C stock on stock Fuchs(sp)

But I'm looking to see what others have been succesfull with in:

CS
STS2 (up to 225mm but are the 215s working for anybody?)
SP
MOD

I'm also wondering if you use tire size to "regear" your 914.

I like the Kumho V710s and for my street tires I like the Toyo RA1s. I also use those when it rains at the AX and they are amazing.

As it stands now, I think my 205/50s have lowered my top speed so I'm running out of 2nd gear too early at auto-X.

I just tryed the RT 615 Flakins and for the price very good rubber. with a four banger I thinks its just enought grip to not bind up the car in tight corners But lets its resr come around nicely. I ran them all day last week at the Streets of Willow and thay never let me down. Only downside is thay are alittle heavy.

1st I think the 914 will do very well STS2
Which means you can go to a 7.5 inch rim and 225mm rubber either 15 or 16" dia.
the Hottest tire on the course for street tire class is the Bridgestone RE-01R Followed by the Yokohama Advan Neova Budget tires in that class is the Azenis and then Hankook RS-2 and Kumho MX However most of these tires larger than 205mmsection width will not fit under stock fenders.

I have run lots of tires from Hoosier R3S04 (225/45-15 to RS-2 (225/50-15) all the way up to slicks 22.5 x9.5 x 15 from a formula atlantic car.
Now running some tires from AVON 240/600 R15
The more stick you have the more spring you will need or you will "bind" as you say.

If I were to get mega serious about this I would run 275/35-15 Hoosier A6 and never put more then 30 competition runs on the set before religating them to practice.

Top speed is not what wins autoxes. If you go up in gearing, your 2nd will top out at a higher speed, but your acceleration out of the corners will suffer. And seeing as most autoxes don't give you a lot of long straights, and do give you a whole heck of a lot of turns, I'd go for the shorter tire package. Now... If you want more stick, and not loose gearing, the Hoosier 225/45-15 or the 275/35-15 both have the same effective diameter as the 205/50-15.

If you're going for taller tires in autox, then you really need the torque to back it up...

If you have courses that get you topping out 2nd try short shifting to 3rd earlier. Thetorque of a 2.0L will make you faster.

If you really want to up the ante and class rules allow re-gear 3rd to a flipped ZD.

Ran a used set of A6s last season, this year I've got a few autoxs on a fresh set of Avon Tech RAs that I picked up on clearance from Tirerack. Also have a fresh set of V710s as well. All 205/50/15.

I agree with Joe on STS tire RE-01R is top street tire. Hoosier is top DOT R.

I use Goodyear R250 canti slicks on 9.8 lb Jongbloed 15x8 wheels. I can buy used qualifying tires with a couple laps on them for $80 a piece and they last half a season of AX and track events!

I don't run SCCA but other groups also use their classing, my -6 has always been ASP. It doesn't have many mods, though.

ASP if it's the STOCK 2.0L six. SM2 if it's got any other Porsche made power plant (including any other six, air or water cooled).

I know this sounds like a pointless exercise, but... write a letter.

No, really. It's terribly obvious that the six shouldn't be in ASP, but until the SCCA gets letters from people asking for reclassification, it'll remain in ASP because they've got a cr*p load of other cars to worry about that have far more people driving them.

There are very few actual 914-6's out there (compared to BMW M3s, Vettes, Civics, Miatas etc.), and even fewer that still have an original unmolested 2.0L motor in them. So it's no so much that they have deliberately classed the six against the latest and greatest ubercars, it's just that it's soooo not on their radar, that they've left in in the same class it was originally placed in back in the 80's...

Really, write a letter. Pick a few cars today that you can compare the car to. Use things like weight, power, torque as basics for comparison. I would tend to say that the 2.0L six might be able to better find a home in CSP, against the miatas of today (no small task, let me tell you). At least then, it's in a class with similar cars...

Just saying that the six has only 10 hp more than four won't work though. That's in stock form, and SP gives a lot more capabilities to some cars under the allowances. If a 2.0L six was given unlimited intake and exhaust modifications (as is allowed in SP), I think the gap between the 2.0L four and the 2.0L six would be a bit wider...
