Hi guys, I have an 72 that is rusted pretty bad in the rear floorpans, battery box etc... I have a chance to buy a rust free tub for under $500. Any suggestions on whether to fix the rust on the old one or move everything onto the new tub.

first, welcome to the club (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)
second, there is no such thing as a "rust free" roller for $500! i think we would need you to post pictures here of both, the current rusted out car and the "rust free" car as well to help you out. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thisthreadisworthlesswithoutpics.gif) Andy |

that actually does look pretty good (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
if you can get it for $500, i'd probably go for it. but it's a TON of work to strip a car and switch everything over to a new tub! at least you would get the color-change done right with that tub. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) now, we need pictures of the rusty spots on your car. how bad is it? rusted through the frame rail? surface rust or real holes? how much? where? grab a camera and get some pics for us. i guess it depends on how much work you want to get yourself into.
the new tub seems nice (me likes flares), you could get it painted in your favorite color and then switch everything over from the old car. while at it, you could upgrade things like the suspension etc. and get some nice 5-lug wheels to fill out those flares. if the interior of your old car is in good condition, that should turn out really nice. but again, having done those "swaps" before i can assure you it's going to be a lengthy project. you'll be probably back on the road MUCH faster by fixing up the old car. just my '02 cents ... thanks, I would like a yellow car.... I have run out of garage space. I picked up a 74 from ohio last week (the passport truck almost froze the morning it arrived. I may just try and sell the old one and cut my losses. |

Welcome to the board Ken. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)
Now let me see if I have this right. You bought that orange 74 car in Ohio (NICE - I remember seeing it ebay)? AND you bought the red 72 from N.Y. (I remember seeing it ebay)? AND you're looking at buying another roller for the red 72? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) You're definitely in the right place, for you are addicted. Keep the orange 74, and sell off the red 72. |

I'd go with the one Craig listed....looks like a easier start than the stripped tub...
And welcome (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |
