Yep the louvers are fun, but I've done this before. I cut out the panel behind them (that's how I got the tape behind them), paint the backside first and then urathane/screw a new panel back in place. This also allows me to put a 3rd brake light behind the louvers.

Wife picked the colour (I approved it) Honda 07-08 vivid blue....every bug /914 I've ever had has been orange or red...she wanted a change.

This morning

Good eye Jake! I now have a '67 bug and '67 bus (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

I'll paint the hoods and small parts today.

I'm sure happy to see you have got the 'bug' back. That breather must have made a world of difference.

This '67 is taking shape nicely! Needs some nice rims though. What plans there?

All these bug CW's (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It's going to be far from stock

What I have for it so far

IRS with 3" narrowed front end, lowered spindals
4-bolt NOS EMPI sprint stars (same as on my 914)
full EMPI GTV gauge kit
EMPI steering wheel
EMPI GTV badges and a few well placed stickers
Bunch of old EMPI trims
Gene Berg or EMPI shifter (I have both but I like the Berg better)
Lots of new WCM seals and trims, etc.
Pop-out rear windows
Locking steering kit
NOS towel bar bumpers.
Kafer cup brace
2270 T4 based on a GA case, 2.0 heads, DTM
SDS FI
A1 T4 header/exhaust

BTW all the EMPI stuff is front my stash, most is the real deal, not Mr.Bug trash.

I also have 2 rear hoods for it, one is the stocker and it's going on my recroom wall with a light behind it.
The one going on the bug is a 'vert decklid for the extra vents.

I know I'm forgetting a few things...been collecting parts for the past 10+ years.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)
