just got the cbr mirrors on. they are a little long. but i actually like it....gives a little more style to the car...kind of like a lamborghini...stickin way out and all

There is a long and short version. Looks like you got the long version.

If I remember correctly I needed the base from the long version and the short version of the mirror. In all like 40 or 50 bucks.

I will probably go back and make my own base at some point.

short

The mirrors are still folded in just so they are out of the way. As small as they are and being black people walk into them all the time. But you can see they are much shorter.

mark: love the spoiler...not sure about the mirrors. the cost of course...the thought that i've escorted my 914....kind of makes me die a little inside.

and i guess it is the cool thing to put a Porsche crest on your hood. i better jump on that asap

rich...its not that we need to...its that we want to...be safe??? i dont know where i was going with that

Doug Armstrong (tracks914) put these Oldsmobile Mirrors on. His thread was from January. They look very cool.

I like those mirrors and, since I will need some myself, what type of olds? Model, etc.?

I put these on as a temporary measure because I couldn't decide what mirrors I really wanted.

Now I really like them, they work fine, and the glue shows no sign of giving up.

You don't need a horizontal fixing if you glue them to your glass (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Who made this bumper? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) Do you have more pics of your car? What does the rear one look like? Cool car, sorry for the hijack.

Thank you Thomas, Jim, for your comments.

The car was built (rebuilt) in the mid-90s by a man with lots of skills but an aversion to buying parts or doing things the conventional way.

He also built a Hebmuller replica, all in metal, from a picture he had on a t-shirt:

(IMG:http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z19/swapped_album/stuff/VWTrendsfebr98_2.jpg)

The front and rear bumpers are the original metal ones, smoothed and filled and reshaped to how you see them. I have no idea what the front spoiler is, and haven't seen another one in this country, or online, so far as I remember.

The camera always flatters my 914, and what you can't see is the floorpan, which is strong and flex-free, but not as it left the factory (more of a tribute in metal to the art of the patchwork quilt).

But he also spent ages modifying a type4 muffler to have a twin-centre exit that looked like a pig-snout that you can just about see in this picture:

(IMG:http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z19/swapped_album/GEL/2F.jpg)

That exhaust pretty-much disolved into red dust soon after I got the car, and I replaced it (eventually) with a 4-1 header and no longer run a rear valence.

I used power mirrors from a Honda Del Sol. The base of the Del Sol mirror is very wide and it took a lot of work to conform it to the curve of the door. I also added reinforcing brackets from the inside. The control switch is from a late model Miata.

Olds Mirrors

Doug,

I'm nearly ready to mount my flag mirros, but everytime I see how well your's turned out, it always make me think twice. You're nothing but a trouble maker (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

When mounting your flag mirrors you need to start w/ them so they are a bit above the horizon because as you tighten the mounting screw it tends to pull them down so they angle downward and can look droopy like the pic of the lt. blue 73 in an earlier post. Also if you look at a 911 the driver's mirror is mounted more foward on the door than the passenger side.

I know this is old but I like the olds mirrors and started looking for some online. Are the original mirrors plastic? The replacement ones say they are plastic. I can go to a pick and pull but I thought I would check online first.
