I believe the missing special your forgot to mention is the automatic "Sport-o-Matic Transmission", rare, rare, factory 914-6. Tell us more.

indeed, I forgot to tell you the best ... it's one of 16 factory built 914-6 Sportomatics
to be exact, it's the last built
unfortunately there's still a problem with the clutch actuation ... my guess would be the problem is somewhere at the micro switch
shifting with the engine off is easy
shifting with running engine is difficult, sometimes not possible

I will update my VIN info soon

Wolfgang,

Where is that "micro switch"?? Is it on the transmission or a switch under the dash?? Maybe the 914-World can help you find one. I was looking at my parts book & can't identify it??

Tom

currently I'm not so familiar with all the Sporto details - and, as most of you know my mechanic facilities are more than limited

the micro switch is at the bottom of the shift stick
it's directly connected to some contacts, which should give an electric impuls when you touch / move the shift stick
this electric impuls makes a magnet powered valve open the vacuum reservoir and the connectet vacuum servo operates the clutch

as I found out these days, it's hardly possible to get into "L" - whenever I try, it sounds like gears crying for mercy ... like the clutch didn't open
same problem mostly for "3" and "R"
hardly any problem for "D" and "4"

so I think that the clutch (and the vacuum thing) is generally o.k. - but it doesn't open always it should
and this sounds like a contact problem with the micro switch or some of the contacts around it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

what do you guys think ??

all in all it's not a big problem - standard driving is possible with "D" and "4"
but driving through the mountains is no fun without "L"
the torque converter uses the same oil than the engine - so, extreme mountain roads (and that's exactly what we have in my are) lead to overhead, if I have to use "D" instead of "L"
at my yesterday tour I had to stop at halftime, because the combo gauge told me that the oil was to hot - I had to wait for more than 15 min to cool the oil down, before I could continue climing the hill

it's pretty clear - if I could use all gears it would be more fun to drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Gustl;
Sounds alot like the VW auto shifter. You can adjust the contact, if its working. Or check the diaphragm on the hydraulic clutch actuator. Being that old means some issues. If its identical to a VW autostick, then go to the solenoid in the engine compartment. There is an adjustment on the solenoid in the engine compartment. It has 2 large vacuum line running to it. Mounted on the right top of engine compartment. It's a screw with a plastic cover over it. Straight slot on it. Turn screw 1/2 turn at time and count the number of turns you go so you can always put screw back to it's starting position if needed. Turn it in 1/2 turn and see if it makes a difference if not put it back and turn in opposite direction. When you find a place that lets it go in gear gently stop and put cover back on.
Now that is if it is like the VW version. Chances are good that it is.. hope this might help...

Do you receive any government income during unemployment?

yes, but it's only 60% from my last income ... and it's limited to 6 months

Thats better than in the USA. I have never been on unemployment but what I have heard is that its only 25%, up to a certain dollar limit, and only for 6 mopnths also.

You will find something...if not, oh well, come over here and look...and bring the car... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Wolfgang,
Not only do you have a /6, but a very unique /6 as well. As others before me have said, congratulations on not only finding such a rare 914, but actually acquiring it as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif)

I too am certain that the job situation will work out positively as well. My best wishes and a prayer for your career path are included with this reply.

I already thought about this possibility, but then I thought I will first contact the owners of two 914-6 Sportos in Germany. On the one hand I can talk German with them (much easier for me) on the other hand I could visit them with my Sporto to search together for a solution. The one is just 2 hrs from my place, the other about 4 hrs.

but thanks for you message (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif)
I appreceate every help
