What's the verdict on using a motorcycle lift for engine removal/install?
Thinking the Harbour Fright econo-version.
I know there has been some discussion pro/con on this but I never caught the bottom line.
Info please.

one vote for "yes".

i use two jacks. one regular and one motorcycle. the MC jack does not get as high as a regular jack but i lay a square piece of plywood across it and that makes for a nice platform.

One block of wood on the motorclycle across legs. You need about 3 inches more height. A floorjack under the body of the car right below where the tunnel exits into engine compartment....you can lift the car easily from here.

I found that the HF transmission jack works better. You have no height issues. YMMV

Yep! for $49 buck you can't go wrong.

I bought one just for this, I've pulled the engine 4 times with it, works GUUD.

They make excellent engine stands as well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
PS I have one you can borrow if you are coming this way (Visalia).

The only problem with the motorcycle jack is you cant lower the engine all the way down with the trans attached! I like the rolling casters on 2x4's high enough to slide the jack under and lower the engine onto it.

The motorcycle jack works fine though!

I asked this question some months ago and I was told that the weight of the engine and transmission exceeded the lift capacity of the mootorcycle jack.

Check your lift capacity before making your decision.

When I looked at the Kragen lift, I thought it was rated at 325 LBs?

You might want to check.

He was asking about the Harbor freight econo MC lift.

I have it, it's MORE than plenty.

I was in Ceres on Sat. If i knew you needed this I would have brought it with me. Right now it's just taking up space in my garage.

If you want to borrow it let me know

My Kragen ATV lift is rated at 1500#. Easily lifts engine/tranny combo. I just wish it lifted it higher.
