Hi !

Just opened my tachometer speedometer because the odometer was stuck. This is a common problem and I know how to solve it (thanks to Pelican's tutorial).

BUT when testing the odometer I found out one small wheel was broken.

(see picture) I only need one of theese tiny part to make it work again.

Can a tacho guru who has piles of non working odometers help me and send me one of theese parts ? ...

Btw. Johannes, the Americans call the Tachometer "Speedometer" and the Drehzahlmesser "Tachometer" ...

Don't ask me why ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Anyhow, to unconfuse the confuzzled, in Europe the Speedometer is called "Tachometer", so Johannes is referring to the Speedometer ...

Johannes.
That broke because the other gear, the main drive gear gets stuck and those little gears click over sequentially.

So, the little gears are forced to turn by the gear next to it as you increase your kilometers.
The underlying issue is the main drive gear may have been stuck in position, not the Pelican tutorial problem, but the other gear that drives the odometer.

Take a look, see if it still moves.
Its the gear the goes between the trip meter and the main odometer, or the smaller one....

Thanx Rich

The problem was indeed the one described on Pelican's webpage. The big metallic wheel was free on his axis and the odometer wasn't running anymore. I fixed that and tested the odometer.

I discovered the broken small weel later when re-assembling. It is the wheel for the 10000. As I have the car for less than 3 years I vever had the opportunity do see the 10000 digit move... and it couldn't because one tooth of the small wheel is broken. The tooth is broken a very weird way like it had been burned... Maybe a kind of "sabotage" in order to keep low milage ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I understand wanting to give him the right parts and all.... but did it ever occur to anybody that had one to just send him a whole tacho/speedo/odometer (whatever you're calling it) and just let him get the parts he needed?

Just a thought.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yes I live in France. Shipping of a complete Speedo would cost alot. It's better to extract parts from a non working speedo and try to save the one I have in my car.

Thanx Dr Evil ... MP sent
