Story and pic at:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/americas/02/...r.ap/index.html

Article reports that officials state it to be a "tailfinned 1950s car", but what do they know. Check out the side marker lights and targa bar.

Hey Kelzey, would you look at this car for me? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

From that picture, it looks like a '59 or '60 "Buford" (Buick) yacht!

I'm voting Buick. I also think it's too bad that their relatives couldn't keep from yapping about it. They don't have a chance now that word is out and they're only half-way here.

Look closely at the way the front fenders, on the "boat", droop downwards toward the grill. Definitely a Buford!

You win a free pass on their next voyage. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

That is, IF you're correct. I lean towards Rgreen914's assessment.....59' Buick.

They sure LIKE the color GREEN....

Here's their previous vessle.....51 Chebby pickup:

Cuba is loaded with pre 60's American iron, most are in good shape body wise. A few Canadians have had them shipped back.
We (our gov) don't hate the Cubans as your government does.

Make that a "custom" GM product! Do the names Invicta or Electra sound familiar...for Bufords?

Wonder if the prop is coming off the trans via reduction gears or straight off the engine crank....coast guard will prolly cite them for operation of a vessel w/o a reverse..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Unfortunately, these people will do anything to come here. Since I live here, we have been to the beach to find the burned wreckage of "boat people"washed up on the beach.

The Coast Guard usually spots them, captures them, and then sets the boat afire, hoping it will sink. Many wash up on the beach.

The few I have seen have cans of Spam, and canned vegies, water bottles, a radio and flashlight, and are constructed so poorly, I would be afraid to take them in my swimming pool.

And they have to go 90 miles in them (in waves as high as 10 feet), and sharks.

Not defending them, but it's really amazing what they cross the ocean on!

Its sad that they have 5 children on board, with their lives at risk. Thats desperation. I guess the allure and national pride of hand made cigars doesn't get it done in Cuba- they'd risk everything and their kids for some freedom.

Speaking of Freedom - how's Lawrence?
