Although we don't have a definite location for Pa., I would like to see it somewhere in Pa. to try and get the most east coasters as possible Wasn't there an offer for ECC 2008 on the top of a mountain in Pa. last year?

There was. I don't know where that guy went, or if he is even a member here anymore. I was hoping that he would speak up.

What about at the location where they have the VW show at the same time as the Hershey swap meet in campeltown? I think they have camping the night before there too. Just an idea . . . .

I have a question.
Is it worth expanding the Cookout to include some driving events???

Just an Autox might be fun.

OR
Do it around the Hershey event....a stampede at Hershey might be fun...a takeover of the autox...

Zach will then need to get his car done for Hershey OR change his picture/logo.

If we decided to hold the event in Western MD it would include an autocross.

Doing it around the Hershey event *could* work, but would require someone to step up ASAP in make it happen. And that person can't be me this year, I am simply overwhelmed. Fall is usually a bit warmer then spring, and the weather at Hershey can be a bit damp (not that ECC2008 was dry).

Simply stated, ECC will not happen at all this year unless someone steps up to take it over. There is no one leading the charge. There is currently no planning committee. There is no planning forum set up in the Events area. I feel like I am letting everyone down by not running this, but I have less time this year then I had last year - and last year I did not feel that I had enough time to really do the ECC justice.

One thing we seem to have gotten away from is that the ECC started out as a cookout. Lately it has been a really big deal with catered food and tents and whatnot... just ask anyone who has hosted one what a big deal it has become. While I appreciate the effort (and expense) that our hosts have put into these events, I think it might not be a bad idea to get back to the roots... instead of having one big party, why not 2 or 3 simple, low-key get-togethers. I am thinking of Rod's Sterling Oktoberfest as an example of a great mini-get-together. Much less planning involved, get everyone to bring something, so it's easier on the host's budget.

So,
If suppose I was to step up and arrange this event to be around Hershey, would that work?

I can get this done fast with some effort.
Zach would need to absolutely promise to drive his car...that will convince me.

One thing to consider is that we can easily "crash" the AACG where all of the prep work for the venue, etc has already been completed. And we will be welcomed. I did the camping thing last year at it and what happens there is what I have seen happen through pics at the ECCs at night, BBQing, fires, staying up late drinking and BSing, etc. Go to the show the next day for a few hours then go for a spin in some of the solid roads in North Jersey.

I'll pursue my rents place further as well.

What is AACG?

I have a place big enough..with barns, shops, pool table, fire pit etc.
We can make this happen during an autox weekend event and storm the event.

OR
I could contact the PCA region that hosts Hershey and we can do it there.

All Air Cooled Gathering in Flanders, NJ. Hosted by the Central Jersey VW Society. Mostly a VW show but for all air cooleds. You can check out www.cjvws.com for a better idea about the venue and what goes on . . . it is at an old german retreat in the woods in North Jersey.

OK, I'll step up as head planner but the one I will plan is the version that is the annual Mid-Atlantic Mid-Engined Ramble/East Coast Cookout that has been held close to 9/14 (Sept 14th). This doesn't seem to conflict with anything around Hershey time so the more get-togethers the better and they are open to all.

I would like to have the 5th (or is it 6th?) annual Mid-Atlantic Mid-Engined Ramble/East Coast Cookout on Saturday, Sept 12th (as close to 9/14 as we can get). It would be nice to take Johnny Backstain up on his offer to hold it in New Market, VA.

Maestro, I say right on!

I need to check the date of Hershey this year, it may be my son's first birthday.

I'm in for Sept 12th though (or whenever the fall ECC will be).

Hershey looks like it is going to be the weekend of April 25. So, I'm probably clear for that day unless I have a grad school related exam or paper. Won't know till semester starts next week.

My offer to host ECC2009 is still good & I'll just wait here quietly to see who's in charge & who wins the vote/poll for a location.

Alright...

McMark opened up a protected forum for planning this event for us.

Zach, how would you suggest we proceed?
How many people does it take to plan an event?

I am happy to lead this effort but I need a select group to help out.
