Is it worth expanding the Cookout to include some driving events???
Dodgy without insurance. Good luck getting a venue without insurance.

QUOTE
Do it around the Hershey event....a stampede at Hershey might be fun...a takeover of the autox...

The CPA guys put on a real good event but it is frequently oversubscribed and unlike many local AX events which are happy to open the field to other marques, their standard line is the PCA party line - Porsches with Porsche engines. This is not a problem for any 914 4 or 6 but would eliminate 'most' V8's and other water-car conversions.

You could try to talk to the guy about opening it up for us but I think it's a low-yield proposition...

I expect to be at Hershey this year for the swap meet, but that's business. I think I'd be more open to a cookout event later in the year.

FWIW - I have no problems driving south (or north for that matter) to attend. I'll do what I can to participate but I can't take the lead (BTDT - i figure I have a 10-year dispensation...)

OK, so I opened up a planning forum and right off the bat it sounds like two events will happen...the ECC and the ECI (East Coast Invasion)

I contacted the Hershey organisers and I will be reporting what I get back for info.

Currently planned
four spots at the Swap meet for the 914 community
Special corral parking for the 914 community
A special class for the 914's at the autox with awards for the 914 community
A single hotel (with a bar) for the 914 community.

6 hours flat if I leave at midnight...and that is how we do it.
10-12 hours if I leave normal time..Hartford wastes 30-60 min. NYC can burn up a few hours if there is an issue.
I have to go through NYC to get there so leaving at midnight puts me in a low traffic time of night...

We drive all the way through iron butt.
I drove a 356 last year and we were there for the gates opening (after breakfast) at 6:30 am.
Try driving a 356 that long and you will agree that its an iron butt ride...low tech seats back then.

Rich

Hopefully we could time it right and meet up around Northern Jersey...there will probably be at least 3 or 4 914s in route from my area.

wish i had about 10 acres, would pony up a spot here in new england to host. and would donate BBQ!!! alas the neighbors who already give a scrunchy face at my car would be less than pleased.... and no where to park/camp either....

decisions, decisions.....

The event at Hershey now has its own thread.
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=91454
The Hershey event will be the first Hershey MidEngine Invasion!

Lets keep this thread for ECC topics, and all join up to help Type47 plan a killer event.

The MidEngine Invasion has ended.

It is time to start planning for the East Coast Cookout 2009 in earnest.

Type47 will be leading the effort, and I will assist again in any way that I can. Lets start getting organized.

If you are interested in being part of the planning committee, PM Type47 and myself. We have a location (Newmarket VA). But we need to start funding for tentage (rain happens) and need someone to start shaking the trees for handouts.

Invasion was awesome. Newport is 8 hours, not 4 though so I think we may need to start a breakaway New England cookout!!

When we last left this, the event was going to be located at Johnny Backstains, (Al's), in New Market, VA, on Sept 12 (9/12 is the closest we can get to 9/14, well, there was a type IV in a 912E... so we're sorta related...). If there are any input ideas, before it gets too close to the date, about conflicts, now is the time to state them.

The plan is pot luck, comraderie, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drunk.gif) .

Hershey had an autocross, MAMER could have a hillclimb (up the mountain)

cheers,

scott

Now that I know you...take more sarcasm...you can make a 8 hour drive...

I thought this thread got put on hold in mid-location-voting? Last thing I remember was abstaining from voting because I offered this location & did not want to influence the decision. The invite is still good for having it here, but this should be settled cause it's already July!

I agree. Lets get organized!

Jim, if you need help, just ask. We still have the planning forum set up in the Event Planners area. We junked it up with all the Hershey planning, but it is still there ready to go.

I'll be happy to help in any way that I can.

I'm planning on brewing a pale ale this weekend and aging it with dry hops until a week or 2 before the event.
