Yes, sad but true, I had an 'off' with the 1997 Outback and I suspect it will be totalled. bit of unibody bending - not horrible but I know the residual value and I'd be astonished if the insurance copany wanted to pay to bring it back...

The 2,5-liter NA DOHC (4-valve) engine is running great and still delivering window sticker fuel mileage. This is not the original engine - I replaced it 3 years ago with this one, a 50k-mi (supposedly - who knows?) local salvage source with fresh head gaskets. Was a bolt-in no surprises replacement. Very pleased. Obviously, all the ECUs and bits to make it go.

I need to talk with the insurance people today. Beat their deal and it's yours!

No Front Suspension! Bring a trailer or a flatbed. Philadelphia suburbs.

I am not expecting (m)any takers but you guys get the offer first.

Don't know what I'll replace it with. Car dealers are dealing but the finance picture is grim, so I expect I'll be in some crappy econobox for a while. I am prepared to be surprised, tho.

The fleet pricing through my company on Fords is quite attractive and we've been talking about a truck. If they can make the financing go, it could work out. It'd beat using the Subaru as a tow car ;-)
