I'm trying to put back together the parking brake cable system on my car after the prior owner had to remove it (rust repair).
The single cable that comes from the parking brake handle goes to a bracket. Attached to that bracket are the two cables that go to the parking brakes. This bracket is inside the passenger compartment. Now what's crazy is that the bracket isn't symetrical!! (IMG:http://www.performanceforum.com/wesvann/914a/lever.jpg) The center hole is where the cable from the parking brake handle attaches. "A" and "B" are where the cables that go to the brakes attach. But here is the question; Does "A" go to the drivers side or to the passenger side? (which side is up) And why the heck isn't it symetrical? (more of the pulling force would go to one side than the other!!) Wes |

I'm guessing it's asymmetrical because the routing and lengths of the cables are different.

I've got to say that you guys really amaze me!! First off, it doesn't surprise me that somebody would know that "oben" means "up" in german. (I did a google search to verify it) I'm impressed. But what really gets to me is that somebody knew that it's stamped on there!! (it's not shown in the photos) Wes |

Hey guys-
Thanks for a very useful thread - especially that photo from AvalonFal and the comment from Mike914 about "oben" being stamped on that "TURNBUCKLE" that Wes V started off the thread with (Item Nr25 Turnbuckle 914 424 568 00.) I finally found where "oben" was stamped but would not have been able to find it or decipher it were it not for Mike914's pointing it out. (Here is a photo of it for the next guy tying to resolve this dilemma.) Attached thumbnail(s)
