a bug is lighter than a 914 and a drag bug is much lighter.

for 8500 beans - you could get a sweet raby powerplant - better suited to a 914

is my understanding

wll it fit - height will be a problem

I could maybe believe 150-200 hp with a little reliable service. Vw didn't design the case or crank design to hold up to 400hp. To use strengthened parts to hold that hp reliabily would cost twice that. The same heat is made on any motor that makes 400 hp. Can you imagine cooling that without water? Sure 8 second passes but 3,4 or 5 minute full blast in the dunes?
It sure won't have any oil residue on the outside unless a new port opens up.
2 liter bug head designs must need 30-35 lbs of boost to make that amount of hp.

When you bring it back to reason a raby na motor would be a much better proven solution.

Grenade!
That would be like a 2 stroke race motor, rebuild it one weekend, run it the next, repeat.
