So... the CIS system interferes with the stock engine lid latch location. When moving the latch to the other side of the engine compartment what is the best thing to do for the cable?

Look for a push/pull cable.
Tractor places have them..McMaster Carr, MSC, Grainger.

Get some brake line the same size as the tube...extend the tube to wherever you need it.

The 914 engine bay and engine lid are designed to locate the latch on either side of the engine bay. It was easy to move latch assembly to the right side.

I used extra cable to make the existing cable longer. I 'J' hooked the cable ends together, and taped the union to prevent snags. I did not add extra tubing to the metal cable sheath.

I did this conversion 20 years ago, but to the best of my recollection I:
1. drilled out the latch mount spot welds in the old location.
2. spot welded the latch mount in new location.
3. filled holes left behind in old location.
4. re-painted the engine bay and rear trunk.
5. moved engine lid latch post to right side.
