What's interesting about the first photo is how much damage there is on the passenger and rear of the car. That thing took quite a shunt before it landed where it is now.

Look how the barrier is distorted back behind the car closer to that pole... In 30+ years in EMS and EMS education I have seen this many times. The car just tucked under the barrier. The barrier is intended to prevent head on collisions not protect the driver that hits the barrier. It worked.
I doubt Walter Rohrl works the night shift... Too much seniority.
