It's easily swapped, however, so if that concerns you, you can compare it to the various stampings throughout the car, including the front trunk. Also, on the driver door jamb, you'll see a sticker with VIN #. |

There are differences between the years and location, so i'll try to cover them all here:
All 914s should have the VIN stamped on top of the passenger side fender well, under the front hood: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-179-1217494744.jpg) '70 - '74 have a VIN plate riveted to the passenger side headlight bucket: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-179-1217454197_thumb.jpg) '75 VIN plate riveted to the front firewall: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-179-1217494721.jpg) VIN tag on the drivers side windshield pillar (USA only): (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-179-1217453742.jpg) - '76 cars do not have a rivetet VIN tag in the front trunk! - 914-6: The VIN starts with "914" and the next number indicates the year. 0=70, 1=71, 2=72 - 914-4: The VIN starts with "47" and the next number indicates the year. 0=70, 1=71, 2=72 etc., up until 6=76 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) Andy PS: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) |

Andy,
A how to find your VIN article needs to go in the Classics... Maybe you want to rewrite this for that purpose? |

First of all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png)
This board is probably the best resorse for used parts. Try the classified here first. Pelican Parts would be my second choise. Oh and welcome to the maddness. Oh I hate to do this but Starman may have a little problem with the vin on the fender well if the looks and see it on the passenger side and not on the driverside as you can see from Andy's posted photo it is on the passenger side. Sorry Andy. |

Sorry Andy. Oops, typo. Fixed now. Yes, the stamped VIN is on the passenger side fender. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif) Andy |
