Need some help:
Trying t o decide tirewheel size for a GT clone for track use. What are advantages/disadvantages of 16 versus 16. Would like to go all 8 inch if possible. I know 16 8s will b emore $$ and tires as well whcih could be reason to avoid. Would aslo like to know your experiences with tire currently in dilema as I have 16 7/8 but good tires are 15 (888s) Thanks up front for input. TOT |

i ran 15x8's all the way around...225's good selection at that size. you can use a sapcer up front to get a little more track...overall diameter will effect gearing...other than selection of tires that would be the other consideration...what wheels,,,,,do you already have??

On my 914 GT project, I will be going with fuchs 16 x 7 & 8 ......... with the 944 turbo offset 8s on the rear. At first glance they will all look like sevens.
So far as tires, I am considering 205/50 for the fronts and 225/45 on the rears. My car will be primarily street driven, so max tire width is not the biggest concern. Just an observation: as time goes on 15 inch high performance tires are getting harder to find as the world goes to larger and larger wheel diameters. The selection of tires in 16 inch should be greater than 15 inch.

Plenty of 15" tires available in widths 225 and under. I believe the number of 15" tires will increase due to trend in more fuel efficient vehicles with smaller tires.

well I for one would reccomend the 16's, tires for 15's ARE hard to find. a 225 does not look right IMHO on a 15x8. I am currently running the piss out of my last set of 245/50/15's and they are no longer made. after they wear out I will do the 16x7/8 combo....and go all track on those 15x8's (of which I have 6) sell my 15x7's and get one more set of 15x8's .....the $215 245/50 race rubber is readily available.....:-)

Thanks for input....I am planning to use Fuchs but not sure which offset ...
Since I am running Toyo 888s I can get either 225 45 in either 15 or 16 but cost goes up with 16s pretty dramatically. Bargain is 225 45 15 plus diameter is only 22.8. Seems like a good plan . One last question : can I run 45 rears 50 fronts or is it better vice versa. TOT |

TOT If you are going 205 front, then 50 series is perfect IMO (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |
