My co-owned 914 track car project came with turbo tie rods already installed. The car sat for God knows how many years and had some (ok a lot of) issues.
The tie rods are tight (and German) but the boots were old and cracked... (IMG:http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2439/3547865528_3f4fe8bdda.jpg) So I removed the boots and cleaned out the old grease as best I could... (IMG:http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3388/3547056595_15aea881a5.jpg) ...and added new fresh grease (IMG:http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3127/3547057283_8dffa81c60.jpg) Here's the old boot and new Energy Suspension Polyurethane boots (part number 13105G for black or 13105R for red) available from Summit Racing and other places for about $5 a pair (IMG:http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2462/3547866230_f22493e361.jpg) Shown here installed... (IMG:http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2440/3547867306_701f3b82a8.jpg) While the boots fit tightly over the tie rod, they aren't clipped in place like the originals so only time will tell how effective these really are. For $5 though, it was a cheap and easy fix. |
