As many of you know, I have been working on my car for the last decade...
Here are a few pics of a mirror that I am looking at for my build - I only have a
passenger side mirror at the moment - Thanks go to Rich Johnson for the donor doors,
so I don't have to tear mine up for the fitment -
The mirror needs to move torward the front bumper about 3.5 inches, otherwise
the placement looks pretty good. I would not consider this mirror an option for narrow body cars...

Ferg - Not the olds mirror -
I have brought up this mirror in the past, but my suggestion had been ignored... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
Finally had to try it myself...

Base of the mirror does need some work with a dremel.
Even after working with the dremel, it's not perfect -
But, with an addition of some rubber, it should be close -


Wayne - I am just concerned that the mirror looks too big to start with...
As in obnoxious...

I think it would be without any doubt on a narrow body car...

What year corvette did the mirrors come from? Are you using the electric adjust/heat?

Mirror is from an 06' vette - I think there are a number of years that are the same -
The mirror has the electric adjust built in, and I will use it if I can figure out the wiring, but I don't think this mirror has the heat -

I like them, from the pictures you posted. I'd like to see pictures that show a little more of the car. It's hard to gauge the proportion without being able to get the scale right.

What Clay seems to forget is that I used to shoot pictures for a living...

Please note that the mirror still needs to move forward about 3-4" -

I really can't get any more perpandicular (sp?) to the car for pic's due to it being close to the wall of the garage -

Why do you say the mirror needs to move forward about 3-4 inches? At that point it becomes decoration, not a rear view mirror. Placement of the right mirror on a LHD car is generally rearward of the location of the left mirror because the driver can't use it if it's placed forward. Look at the location of the OE mirror mounting reinforcement plate.

Cap'n -
There is another current thread on the olds mirror -
In that thread there is a diagram showing placment on the door,
which is forward of my current placement - However, as you would point out, the diagram on that thread is the drivers door -
My base also appears to be about the same size of the Olds 88 base -

I will also attempt to show placement with a view of the mirror from the drivers point of view (with a photo later today) - It will clearly show that the mirror can move forward without the view being blocked bt the glass "pillar" -

I'm the one who did the Olds mirror.
Olds Mirrors
The biggest thing was to get a good support mounted inside the door by matching the contour of the door and making a mounting plate. After this the mirror is very solid. The Olds mirror doesn't rotate so if someone were to hit it in a parking lot it might kink the door. The Vet mirror looks like it will rotate but not if it were bumped up or down. I would still put a support inside the door.
BTW I think they (Vet mirrors) look good too.
