With the rising steel prices, I want to go ahead and get some pieces to build my rotessire. I am going to need about 25 feet of 2.5-inch square tubing with 1.88-inch wall thickness, 35 feet of 2.0-inch 11-gauge square tubing, and about 2 feet of both 3.5-inch diameter 3/16-inch wall round stock and 3.0-inch round stock. I will also need about 2 square feet of 3/8-inch thick 1008 or 1010 sheet steel for another project.

All of the pieces are 6-feet and under with most of them much shorter than that, so it might be possible to find somewhere selling used stock. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would like to pick the stuff up today and if they will cut it to lenght for my there that would save a lot of headache.

Sims Metal on Monterey in San Jose also sells metal and may be cheaper than some of the supply-only places. I bought the materials for my 914 towbar from them. The towbar that Brad graciously helped me weld and that I will probably never use again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

lol...

yeah, maybe you should wear a hard hat too. it's a working area...

last time i was there (w/ the 914) i talked w/ a guy who i thought was the owner's son in law. he mentioned that the owner (or some old dude affiliated w/ the co.) had a 6-conversion. so, they're 914 friendly!
