I've always heard the 914 trans being compared to the 901 as same/same.....obviously you would have to flip the ring gear.....

Urban myth? or has someone done this?

Very similar. gear sets etc, same same.
You need the nose piece and shifter rods from the 901.
Replace the 914 tail piece and shifter rods and forks with the 901 stuff and replace the 914 tailpiece with the 901 nose cover.

There is a speedo that can stay or get eliminated...depends upon the application.

Call Jim at EASY...he has loads of 901 trannies.

lots of work for no gain. You also have to move the vent to the other side. Much better to stick with the 911 transmissions.

You don't flip the tranny. You flip the R&P. The vent just needs to be turned in a different direction that's all

Different gears, flip the R&P and use a different nose cone.

I'm using a 911/01 with a flipped R&P, set-up for side shift, with a 914 nose cone and M,S,ZA.

I thought so...just needed a confirmation....

Not a great picture but it should be enough to dispell any urban myths out there.

Mike,

You should already know that!

I will be turning a 911 4 speed into a 5-speed using the guts from a 914.
This is for the tranny going into my VW bug.
