As many of you know, Mary Shortridge has taken on the massive task of restoring her brother's '73 914 1.7. Through Mary, we have learned that Lee was a great guy... unfortunately, his life was tragically cut short in an auto accident, while he was living back home and taking care of his family.

The restoration so far has entailed extensive body work and paint, a full engine rebuild and transmission rebuild - basically everything. Through the efforts of 914world members and vendors, part donations have come in from all over the country. Thank you ALL again.

With Mary's approval, we are organizing two build teams: one to go in the weekend of January 30th to set up the car, tables, and parts; and the second two weeks later, the weekend of February 13th to actually build the car.

The build on February 13th in Garden City Kansas, will be at a very special site which has been arranged for us (it's nice). Additionally, there will be food, T-shirts, and games.... it will be a purposeful reconstruction of a very special 914 AND a fun 914 event and celebration. Sign ups for the event will happen shortly.

As a part of the build and event, we are looking to raise $1500 from members here. We are arranging to have a professional Porsche mechanic flown in to oversee the safe assembly of the vehicle and oversee the teams (with tools and supplies); and we expect to have expenses related to the build and event itself. [?? Per Mary's request, no cash raised will go to buying parts.]

All funds will be managed by two long time members, and any money left over will be donated to public NET radio in Lee's honor. Every donator will be recognized unless you wish to remain anonymous.

Donations can be made by Paypal to: edwardblume@gmail.com managed by Rob Ways (RobW), or by check / mail to Mike Moorman (Kansas 914). PM RobW, Rick?, and Kansas 914, additionally so we can keep track of the tally.

The event itself will have an entry fee of $35 which will include a tribute T-shirt, games, and other extras. Additionally, T-shirts will be available for non-attendees for a short time period for $25- again, all proceeds above the costs of the event will go to NET radio.

Thank you for your interest, support, and for being a part of this build!

I'm sure by now all of you have read about Mary Shortridge. Her brother Lee Cyr was a long time 914 enthusiast. Lee had put his life on hold to move back home and take care of his family. Through Mary, we have learned that Lee was a great guy... unfortunately, his life was tragically cut short in an auto accident.

In Lee's memory the family decided to take on the task of restoring Lee's 914.The restoration so far has entailed extensive body work and paint, a full engine rebuild and transmission rebuild - basically everything. Through the efforts of 914world members and vendors, part donations have come in from all over the country. Thank you ALL again.

Some of the 914world members have been working in the background to find a way to help complete the car that Lee loved and his family holds dear. With Mary's approval, we are organizing a recon team to go in the weekend of January 30th to set up the car, tables, parts and figure out what is needed to complete a build. Then two weeks later, the weekend of February 20th the event will take place. This is when we come together to actually build the car.

The build on February 20th in Garden City Kansas, will be at a very special site which has been arranged for us (it's nice). Additionally, there will be food, T-shirts, and games.... it will be a purposeful reconstruction of a very special 914 AND a fun 914 event and celebration. Sign ups for the event will happen shortly.

Anyone who has ever organized a 914World event knows there are costs associated with putting on an event. Our first challenge will be to get members to Garden City in February on short notice. Usually these events are planned well in advance. Costs associated with running an event are usually supported in part by an event fee paid by attendees. Of course we are hoping for a large turn out but in order to insure success we are looking to raise $1500 from members here.

One of the costs we are looking to cover is airfare for one of our own professional Porsche mechanic's to oversee this build. Safety is our first consideration with the assembly of this vehicle. We will also need to have tools and supplies available for the build team.

We are not raising money for Parts. Mary has graciously accepted the parts you all have provided. She is willing to continue to accept your gifts but insisted no money is to be raised to purchase parts. Her family will make all final parts purchases.

All funds will be managed by two long time members, and any money left over will be donated to public NET radio http://www.netnebraska.org/radio/ in Lee's honor. Every donator will be recognized unless you wish to remain anonymous.

I changed a few things and added some stuff I thought it was important to say. Basically it says the same thing but in a different way. (my manager does this to my reports all the time and it drives me nuts!)

Very nice - one small typo:

He family will make all final parts purchases.

should be

Her family will make all final parts purchases.

Revised #4: Fixed Rick's screen name, small stuff, took out "our first challenge" as there is no second or third challenge. Keep up the revisions - good work!

I'm ready to launch both the fund raiser and the event post Thursday Morning.

I think the fund raiser post is great as is. The event post needs to be finished but I will wing it when I go live.

One Question, Do we have a way to link the sign up form to the event thread?

We can add a link in the post that will allow them to download the form off my website - they can complete and return it to us. Not sure how else to do it.
EdwardBlume
Either way. We can put it on your website or embed a .doc file in the post.
