OK, stupid question:
how do I get the black metal casing of the steering column off? I've taken out the key cylinder, unscrewed the hex bold from underneath, took off the "C' clip, but it won't budge. What am I missing? (the hub you see is just slid on so I could steer the car back into the garage, it was off previously)

If I understand your question right:

There are four hex head cap screws on the bottom that hold it into the
dash.

John,
Thats the entire column. i was just trying to get the black cover off. I didn't realize the bearing came off with it. They were a bit 'tight' on there and not wanting to move.

I'm going to have the cover part fabricated to eliminate the key cylinder section and make it more 914/6 look.

I see. Are you going to go with a key on the left side of the dash or just a
start button?
