Full Version: Narrowed trailing arm thread

I remember reading a thread many years ago where Rich Johnson relocated the wheel bearing in a trailing arm. But now I can't find the thread. Does anyone know where Rich's thread may have gone?

I found a reference to somebody named Timo, who purportedly had done a similar mod, but the thread no longer contains any pics. Here's the link to Timo's now pic-free thread:

Anybody have any clues where this info may have gone?

Can't really help you with the thread location. But the lack of pictures in that thread link you posted is due to a problem we had sometime back. Many of the links to pictures posted in the early days of the forum kinda disappeared.

Dave, I sent you a PM a couple of weeks ago. I never heard back.

Gint, sorry, I owe you a reply. I'll do that now. Thanks.

I understand about the pics. That sucks.

No problem Dave. Just a friendly reminder. Let me know if I can help.

Rich sells his six conversion engine mounts on ebay regulary and is lists other items in the vendor section of this site. A terrific guy who supports anyone with a passion for our cars. I'm sure he would be willing to converse with you about this topic if he was in fact the person who did the mod to set of trailing arms in the past. His contact info is listed in the vendor section.

Thanks, bcheney, I did just that. Sent an email to Rich and got an immediate and very informative response. The short story is, yes, he had the bearing housing moved toward the trailing arm by 19mm. As you can imagine, this was an involved fab effort.

He did this so that he could run 205s on 7" Fuchs under unmolested fenders. He thinks the results were successful, but says it was largely an aesthetic improvement, since 205s fit on 6" Fuchs without requiring the trailing arm mod.

I Timo's whole thread with the rear a-arms missing all the pics?
If so, we need to get him to redo that....that was some amazing work.
