1. I had my spedo drive seal replaced last year and it is starting to leak again. Im going to replace the spedo angle and seal this time. What kind of sealant can I use in conjunction with the seal to insure it won't leak again?
2. How do you know when a thermostat is bad? How do I replace it/set it up. Install when engine is cold or warm? How much should it expand/contract, and what possition is the cable tension set at? Lash (yellow book) has nothing on it.
Thanks,
car is a 75 2.0

I use Hylomar or Dow corning 730 to seal all the tranny related crap.
You can test your thermostat in a pan of boiling hot water. I forget the exact temps but hopefully somebody will chime in.

Hi Todd,
Put the thermostat in heated water of 149 - 158 F. The lenght should be at least 46mm or 1.81 in.
The pic is in the haynes manual. I would have included a pic, but not having 10 posts yet.
