Barry,

Our thoughts & prayers & wishes are with you! You'll be OK. Think of good things only. My father-in-law had a quad back in '77, when there was only one place (Houston) to go to. Lived until he was 89 and slipped on his porch & busted his head.

Good luck my friend!

Have faith. The doctors know what they're doing and your going to be better in a few days.

Good luck, got my stint 2 years ago

This is a common routine nowadays. I know you're scared and I would be too, but I'm a chicken. My dad had a quad as well as one of my fellow workers no issues at all. You will be fine. The reason they're doing it is to extend the warranty biggrin.gif . The docs really do know what they're doing. I work in a hospital .. we have these kinds of routines everyday.

Leaving to check in now. Thanks for the reply's. I`ll try to get the wife to bring the laptop up toward the end of the week.

Better now then '77. Now days they have you sitting on the side of the bed 8 hours after surgery, and home within a week. Back in '77 the patient was generally 20 years younger than they are now and they were hospitalized for 3-6 months. We have changed things a great deal in that time.

When you talk to your anesthesia provider be sure to ask for a thoracic epidural. A little pain med and local anesthetic injected directly into the epidural space just outside the spinal column sometimes as needed, sometimes continuous that keeps you happy as a clam after the surgery is over.

Good luck...

You'll be fine. I totally understand your fear though more than you can imagine.. Two weeks ago I was life flighted to a hospital for an unpleasant 6 day stay. I was scared to death of the surgery. I'm already up kicking and full of piss and vinegar again. Going in positive is really important so try to stay upbeat to the best you can. We'll be here rooting for your fast recovery. Take care

Sending good thoughts. And wishing you the best!

Had a quad twelve years ago; just go with the flow and be relaxed. In my case they also found that the blood to the heart itself was restricted over 70 and had less than sixty days to live. They would not have found it without going in for the quad. Everything seems to have a way of working out.

Our thoughts are with you.

I had mine 4 years ago. I was in the hospital for 5 day total. I was walking a mile a day within 1 week after the operation and driving my 914 after 10 days.

After a couple of weeks you'll think your 30 years younger.

Best of luck with your surgery.

Regular surgeons are like plumbers and cardio surgeons are like watchmakers.

The doctors have a lot of practice doing the re-plumb job. My prayers and thoughts are with you. You will be back at very soon.

Well, here's a prayer but you won't need it. My dad had the second open heart surgery in Texas. If I remember it wasin 1969 or 70. Dr. Michael DeBakey flew in from Houston with his team of 15 assistants. 17 pints of blood and 11 hr's later they finished. If he could live thru that medival experimentation I know you'll make it. I gotta go say a prayer now, but good luck anyway my man.

Barry,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. This is almost out-patient surgery these days - you will be fine. Please give us an update when you are ready.

Best of luck,

Hang in there.. at least you caught it and can fix it.. my Dad had 5 bypasses (yes 5) and he made it just fine... luckily you're living in 2010!

See you back here soon!
sww914
My dad had a quintuple 7 years ago. I asked the doctor afterwards what to expect. He said the fuckers live forever after a bypass. Said it like that.
My dad's the same PITA he always was.
Andyrew
Old 914 guy Jim Cooper had a 7 way bypass and pulled through it!

You'll be fine!

Prayers launched. Now that your tuneup is done (assuming you're out now) I'm sure you feel much rejuvenated... maybe a little sore.

Hope you're surrounded with loves.

The technique is quite impressive nowadays. Its shocking how quickly most patients hop back from cardiac bypass. I see patients many time a day who have had this surgery and are living completely normal lives.

Good vibrations sent your way. (not the kind you get from a misfire) biggrin.gif You'll be fine... probably better than before.

Even type IV's need a rebuild every once in a while. Just think about your next project.

While your're in there...

How about some turbo knees, try to reduce overall weight (do not drill out any parts), and no matter what they recommend, do no let them talk you into carbs or exchanging the brain unit...

Keeping it stock is still very popular for the concours "weenies". (BTW, keep them away from that part too)

Have a quick recovery!

Have a fast recovery, and hope all goes well.

Hey Barry,

When my dad had his quad bypass doctors said it would be good for ten years...it was good for over twenty when more trouble set in but that was because he didn't take care of himself afterwards.
You will feel rejuvenated but don't take that for granted... execise piratenanner.gif , eat healthy chowtime.gif , exercise, eat healthy, exercise, keep the weight off as a life change and you will do fine for a long time. Don't worry you can have a few beer.gif

Best of luck,

Al

Well I`m back !!! sawzall-smiley.gif I tried to let you know yesterday but my words were kinda slured and the spelling looked like someone on drugs av-943.gif Doctors and nurses are great and said I`m doing above the curve, what ever that means. Time to do the walk, then a shower. Hoping to be home Monday, the cable guy is coming (switching to U-Verse, AT&T.)

Way to go Barry. Today is the second anniversary of my quadruple bypass. The doc said my heart is very healthy and no visible scaring from the heart attacks. I'm better now than I was 10 years ago. I was walking the next day (very slowly), and home after three days, However, I did not make a miraculous recovery in two weeks. It was slow and painful. About three months to full recovery. I also had a stent placed in my corotid 6 months later, and I'm going in for an angiogram on the femural arteries next week. I expect a stent in both legs. Too many years of bad living.
PanelBilly
Welcome back!

Lil Red is still on the rotisserie and will be for a while. My body guy is having some sort of foot surgery. I`m hoping we both can get back to work soon, him before me. Thanks for all the prayers and good vibs.
