Remove the dizzy and check for shaft wear (play), my bet is it`s worn.
If you've had tuning issues this will be the (main) reason.
It should only have only about .015-.020 play up/down and no play side to side.

It shouldn't vibrate any differently than the engine in which it is mounted.

indeed.
I believe that what i am seeing is due to the fact that I am now wearing tri focals.
My mom always said if I didnt stop doing that I would go blind....
