Back when we first put Huey together, we borrowed a set of phone dials because we didn't have any 8" wheels. My understanding that there is a specific year of 944 Turbo that has the correct offset of 16x7 and 16x8 wheels to fit a GT flared car, but nobody can tell me what that was.

I'd like to get a set to use for autocross tires because 1) they're cheap, 2) they were pretty light and 3) they actually looked pretty good.

Any ideas?

You are probably thinking of 1986 944 turbo PD's, early offset 16x7 and 8's. 1987 went to late offset 16x7 and 8's.

Those are nice....

I have the late post '87 `16X7. You would need a super duper amount of wheel spacers.

I love 'dials, but couldn't find the right type without running huge spacers... early ones needed larger spacers(1.5"+, IIRC) and flares(which I do not want) and late ones need big spacers too.

I think the 86 turbo is the ones that you would most desire... just look at chappy's and how perfect it looks. smile.gif

I've got the Factory 944 spacers (about 3/4") on the front and in the rear. 245/50/16 on 16x8's
My car before it underwent cosmetic surgery.

There are the Dials that came on the 911's that fit witout the need of spacers 36mm offset , but usually can only be found in 6 X 15 , which will limit tire choice. They fit the narrow bodies well and don't need fender massage.

Needed to bring this up again to ask what is probably a stupid question:
so, if '86 944 Turbo phone dials will fit, will also Fuchs off an '86 944 turbo?

I have a guy offering to sell me a set, but the face doesn't look as deep as the ones on Huey right now.

Get the offset and width which are stamped on the backside of the wheels. That way you'll know for sure.
