Here is my oil cooler install on my 71. A little different from the norm and works
great. The cooler is a Setrab with (2) 6" fans. I fabricated the shroud from 6"
metal elbows and bent plate. I have -12 lines into a Mocal Thermostat then run
the lines in the wheelwell and behind the rockers.

just curious why you run the thermostat close to the cooler rather than close to the engine.

Looks Great,really professional looking setup.
But how hot does the engine oil temp go on the gage, before the thermostat opens.

Do the fans suck or blow ( which way do you exit the hot air)?

Nice pro install.

puts a bit of strain on the oil pump (and sucks some power) to pump cold oil all the way to the front, only to have it bypassed back again. and hot oil is a lot easier to pump.

i can't think why you'd want a thermostat at the cooler end - which is why i asked - i am hoping to learn something...

I have a 2.4L 4cyl. motor in the car so I need the cooler. The fans suck air from
the cooler which also draws from the opening in the valance then out thru the
opening in the trunk floor. I do not think it matters where you mount the
thermostat.I have seen them away and also near the cooler.I have a switch
on the dash now for the fans. I turn them on if the temp goes up in traffic.
I plan on installing a fan thermostat switch in one of the lines if I think it needs
it.
