I have a question about the 73er 1.7 model.

Have them tail or side shifter transmissions?

I believe that it should be a side. 70-72 is tail, I am in the process of acquiring parts for the conversion on my 72 1.7. There are better historians on the site, so if there are excetptions, some one will chime in.

agree.gif 73-on 1.7, 1.8 & 2.0 all side-shifters worldwide, anything else was a transplant from an earlier model - which is dumb since you can convert a tail-shift case to work with a side-shift IRRC.

It may also be listed as a 73 yet have been built in 72 so you may still find a "73" with a tail shifter....so you need to look.

If it was a 1973 model year (VIN 47329xxxxx) it should be sideshift only. There were body changes involved. The earliest ones that I have seen were all sideshift.

What Dave said. The build date on my original car is 08/72. 73 model year (one of the odd duck 'early 73) - sideshift.

You live in North America.
He lives in Germany.

MY dates and registration dates may have been different in Germany (or any other European country).
Left over cars may have been sold locally to reduce shipping costs...

Who knows...go look at the car.
