See attached....I believe the correct installation is with the V (red line) facing up, so that the downward bent flange on the tin will rest in this V. Am I correct?

exactly as you said, Vee down is it!!!!!!

remember to use a big staple or a bit of bailing wire to tie off the two front most corners (the side pieces to the front peice) the factory had a big staple thru them to finish off the seal nice and tight.
