I have AA metal flares. I have 16x7's with 911 offset (...020.44 I think) for the front. I need 8's for the rear. Do I stick with the 911 offset or get the 944/951 offset?

Guys in the know, please step up and tell me what offset you're running (part # would be great) + spacer thickness if any for an 8" rim in the rear. Tire sizes would be great too. confused24.gif

The 911 offset 8"s have an offset of 10.6 ( memory ). The 951 offset is 23, you can still use the 951 wheel but a spacer will be needed to push it out closer to the fender lip.

Depending on the size tire, you may be better off with the 944 offset and then making custom spacers to offset the clearance issue.

I have 15's and they only come in the 911 offset. This makes it difficult to get a really wide tire in there. Even a 215 comes right to the flare edge on the outside. Inside has more clearance.

There's a recent thread here showing what I did to stuff my tires in with the 911 offset. Every mm counted.

Anyone running 8's & 9's?

i did , et 11 in back 23 up front .. I ran 16x9's on the old car..the et 11 fits with no spacers.

Anyone running 8's & 9's?

951 Turbo 8's on the front with 3/4" spacer and 225 tires
911 Turbo 9's on the rear and 245 tires
To me the combination is perfect. (but expensive) It looks good, handles great and offers a comfortable ride.

So with a 16x8 and a 911 offset all I can fit on is a 215? I know there are people out there running 225's and 245's. What they heck are they running? Somebody has to have a part #.

BTW - nice write up on the rear brakes Eric. That'll be next after I do the rear axles and get with you on the front end.

Do you have the offset chart? If not I'll post it here.

Paul (above) is running a 930 9" wheel in the back. The extra inch is added to the backside of the wheel. On my car there's plenty of room back there. Mine are 15x8" that's what I mentioned having the 215's be close on. That is a stock 911SC tire size. Here's a pic of the inward space on my car:

This is why I suggested the 944 offset and spacers. You will get a wider tire in there that way (as you can see from my measuring tape).

Also, camber, sidewalls and profile all play into the grand scheme of things. Keep in mind these are big-ass 70's era tires in profiles that nobody wants these days. These Goodyears are actually stock diameter. Each tire is different.

On my GT clone with AA metal flares I have 911 Fuchs. They are 16x7 + 16x8. The 8's I have 245/45 and the 7's I have 205/55. The rears fit perfect in my opinion I have aprox. 3/16 - 1/4 inch gap to the lip of the flare. The 205's up front have a huge gap that I will have to add spacers. In the future I may run 225 on the 7's up front.

I am planning to run 911 factory 8s up front and 911 9s in the rear on #41. I knew your car had this set up but I was not sure what your 8s where. I have an extra set of 951 8” but I think I will just run the 911’s and no spacers up front. I tried it out when I installed my flares and the 8’s fit fine. I did get an Elephant wheel limiter from PMB so the wheel would not scrape my oil lines in a parking turn.

The big question is? Did you roll you lips flat as that gives almost 3/8 more room?

The car just looks great with this look.

I can't remember all the details but I do remember the 944 Turbo wheels were much cheaper and had a better offset than the 911 and why I ran them. I think I paid about $700 for the pair.

I did not do a roll on the fenders but I trimmed about half the lip in the tire area

I have the 951 wheels both front and rear.

Fronts are 16x7 with 225-50-16 tires
Rears are 16x8 with 245-45-16 tires.

I love the look on the rear. The fronts look too small in my opinion. I am kinda looking for a set of 951 16x8 rims for the front so I can run the same size tire all the way around. This should also help with my understeer problem.

Clay, are you running any spacers with those rears? Is the part number for your rears the same as the second from the bottom on the chart?

Thanks

Yes they are the same part number.

No, I am not running any spacers. I have steel flares, and the tires don't hit. They are close, though.
