What do you guys think of this engine?
Does it compare to the engine a couple
of threads down?

Less than 1000km, currently in car, can be heard and driven.

2056cc T4, based on original 914 2.0 engine (GA case, correct heads, windage tray)
9.5:1 CR
All rotating parts precision balanced
new NPR 96mm pistons, rings, and liners.
Big valves, ported, incl new valves, valve guides, new HS springs from FAT performance. Heads flycut, chambers cc'd
all new std bearings (crank not ground)
rods resized and bushed, new rod nuts
new 911 clutch, rebuilt PP, newly resurfaced flywheel. Again all balanced as a unit with crank and other rotating bits
genuine OE porsche 911 'elephant foot' valve adjusters
new FAT performance HD rocker studs.
new FAT performance street cam - .495" 290 deg, new cam gear of course, new lifters
new FAT blueprinted oil pump
New Eurorace shorty intake manifolds, match-ported for DCNFs and T4 head.
Stainless steel heat exchangers
new Mallory distributor and new mallory Hyfire 6 AL ignition (price those up....)
completely rebuilt Weber 42DCNFs
New K&N filters
fancy Accell sparkplug wires
Blasted and repainted tin, new hoses , etc, etc, etc...
machina
Looks like a good rig to me.

The GA case is no big deal, they're pretty much all the same.

Wondering about the DCNF carbs, why not IDF's, anybody know?

probably cost 6k to build it.

The DCNF's are a real good street carb, but I wouldn't use them in a teen. Going through the twisties will upset them and you can never do AX or track with them. The IDF's have a superior float bowl design. Also the T4 DCNF manifolds are quite short, good for down low, but top end will suffer, you would gain a fair bit by using velocity stacks.
This may be my opinion but I have 2 sets (bug and squareback) of DCNF's, so I have a lot of experience with them.

The SS exchangers will work OK but a header would gain you some ponies.

That would be a 911 clutch disc only.

The rest sounds good. What cam?
So...how much?

Have it dyno'd then offer some money for it based on the results.

A DCNF with velocity stacks.

Dump the dcnf's.... They stink in the twisties...

Mark you might know this engine.
I think Mike worked on the car.
It looks like Mikes shop in the background.

Is that a canadian flag on the coil? ohmy.gif

Yep, I've driven it! It's Dave Syer's engine.

Good engine, about as fast as my squareback, so it's around 120hp. Mileage would be correct as Mike just finished the resto on it last June/July. That's Mike's (Mikes 914, local shop) old shop in the background. When they did the resto they installed a /6 bulkhead mount, so I take it Dave found a six to put in it?

It's a good deal but I would still change the carbs. You should be able to sell them to help offset the price of a new set of 44IDF's. The DCNF's are a good carb and I think they have the float valve upgrade, but they would be better off in a street Bug, bus or a T3. My DCNF's in the squareback are real Berg and they still hiccup in fast corners. I wasn't crazy about the linkage as well, but that would be an easy fix.
If it includes the exhaust it's a total score.

The engine is fresh, all the tin, etc. is restored, so I'd say that 4k Canadian (about $3000USD) is a good price.
