Click to view attachmentNo, In fact that form of jack was introduced with late 72 model. Earlier models were spring compression forms (a la 60's VW). The later style is much safer to use, so long as you're on a hard paved surface and your jack points don't "crunch" when you use it. In that case it doesn't matter which jack you have, becase rust always wins.

If you want my opinion, and it was asked for, no manufaturer has supplied a safe jack EVER. And, I'm talikng about SAFE here. They have been crap forever, and unsafe.
I realize that a hydraulic jack isn't really somehting you want to carry with you, but they are the safest. Porsche never made a safe jack, IMO.

I have some variations of jacks that are not shown on the (914 site. I can not verify that all of them came from 914's. Really curious about the black dot jacks that are shorter.
Also look at the handle variation on the green dot jacks.
