When I changed out a worn clutch cable I discovered that the clutch pedal spring was broken. I wasn't looking forward to taking out the pedal "patch", but figured it was a need to do thing. I dug thru my junk parts box for a pedal assemble I had taken from a parts car a while back to rob the spring. It wasn't there, not broken, just nada. I remembered that I had driven the junker and the clutch worked OK. I called Wes Hildreth, a very knowledgeable fellow and he explained that the spring was really a rattle stopper and pulls the slack out of the cable rather than returns the pedal to home, as I had figured it did. So unless I just wanted to, replacing it was not necessary. Any comments out there on gong without the spring.
