Nice. The insert often cracks and falls out.

Aluminum. I saw a prototype. Unfortunately my car still has bigger problems than that.

A lot of times the rear latch will go to the platers and the owner will forget to disassemble to remove this piece (pot metal in stock form). They discintegrate (sic) in the plating process.
