So I don't know if this is user error or product malfunction, but I was wondering if anyone else had had the same problem. I noticed this today as I was cleaning up the engine bay. Maybe the plug wire slid out? confused24.gif

Looks like it was arcing between the wire and coil to me.

HT lead not plugged in all the way, is my guess.

Did you bring your 914 up or are you in NM?

My 350 chev did that. The wire terminal gets corroded and starts to dissappear from the bigger gap between the wire and the coil contact. The heat is what melted the rubber. The coil is so hot it just keeps on arcing the gap. It's actually just the result of not checking the wires often enough. It would be noticed if you had ever raised the engine cover at night with the motor running though.

So user error it is. Fair enough. Gint, I'm still in NM and I just bought a fairly complete 73 1.8 parts car, any input on how best to cut it up or any parts that you might need? Pictures will come soon.

does anyone think the coil is still useable?
