Just wondering what car the engine came from? Since I bought it when it was out of the carI don't know the truth

I'd say start with the serial number, that should tell you the year model.

The information should lie in the engine serial number if it is indeed a 3.0 Litre 911SC engine (1978-1983).
L Series 911SC's1977-78 - (September of 1977 to August of 1978, are all 1978's)
Serial numbers would start with:
6380001
6280001
6580001
6880001 Turbo

M Series 911SC's 1978-79
6390001
6290001
6590001
6890001 Turbo

In 1980 Letters go back to start with "A"
A series 911SC's 1979-1980
6300001
6400001
No Us Turbo
B Series 911SC's 1980-1981
6310001
6410001
No US Turbo
C Series 911SC's1981-1982
63C0001
64C0001
No US Turbo
D Series 911SC's 1982-1983
63D0001
64D0001
No US Turbo

3.2 Litre Carrera models beginning in September of 1983 Engine serial #'s for US would begin with 63E0001.

Serial numbers are stamped on Fan side of engine, look on the right side of fan at approximately 4 O'Clock on the engine case upright you should see a serial number that starts with a Star and ends with a Star.

Hope this helps, I should have more decoding info but most info is from VIN.
Can't find my other book.
