Full Version: I need to add phenolic intake blocks. Tips?

ok its hot enough now that the car is flooding after parked for 15 minutes when HOT. I don't have the phenolic insulator blocks. I need to find a set, but I'm sure I'll have to change out the intake studs at the same time.

1.7 heads if it matters (8 studs total)

questions:
- anyone know what size and length of stud I will need (If I go to the local specialty store they sell metric, I might be able to buy them but don't know what size to ask for)
- are the 1.7 studs the same size and lenght as a 2.0 stud?
- do I have to pull the engine tin to do this with the motor in the car?
- anyone have any tips on how to get the old studs out?
- do I need to use any loc-tite or anything to put the new ones in?
- not to make this a classified, but anybody have a set of insulators for the 4 bolt heads that they want to sell to me?

thanks all in advance

questions

- No need to remove the engine tin
- Get the spacers first so you know the exact thickness
- Remove one stud, go to the hardware store and get a set of studs that are longer by the thickness of the spacer plus some extra room just in case.
- Once the intake is off, removal is easy. Simply double-nut and remove.
- I usually put a thin coat of sealant on each side. They do come with the thin paper already on both sides.
- All the usual outlets sell then. Think pelican ...
- Make sure both the head mating surface and the intake runner surface are really clean. Also make sure the intake runner mating surface is not warped.
- Plug the intake holes so you don't drop anything in there while you are working on it ...

What Andy said.

Though I could not find the m8x1.25 studs anywhere local (in any size).
I could find m8x1.25 threaded rod, though. So I made my own studs.

leave it to Andy to use common sense!
(thank you sir!)

my supply source (mcguckins) for metric is in another town
so I was hoping to buy first, tear down, and rebuild all in the same day

however, I think the solution is to just take a 2nd vehicle to the other town and make this into a 2 day project.

I'll try to order the blocks
thanks guys!

I just removed the studs and used bolts when I added the blocks.

No nuts/washers to drop.
