I bought a 1981 VW Caddy (pickup) from a soldier that works the Supply end of the Army. He scooped this truck before it could go off to public auction.

1981, 1.6 diesel, 5 speed.

Here's where you come in: the guy tells me that it came from VW N/A like this; camo, 2 X 4 heavy steel bumpers, pintle hook, bed rails etc. It's also lifted 2" front and rear and used to sport 15" rims.

Notice the distance from the tire to the wheel well. Military war time tail lights and I'm digging the whippy antennae.

What info are you looking for? I don't see any blackout lights and the paint looks too smooth to be CARC. CARC is required on all combat, combat support, and combat service support equipment. CARC is also not able to be applied to wood surfaces. Never saw a foreign vehicle used in our military- government funding is given to American based companies first. CUCV trucks were Dodge (starting in 1976) and Chevy (starting in 1983)...

The Danish Army seems to have a connection to VW, and has utilized the Caddy. I don't know what you have...

The CUCV model of the K series truck was actually manufactured in Flint, Michigan.

Civilian K series vehicles could have been made in Oshawa.

Ya, all of our old trucks were Dodge or Cheby. My guess if it wasn't done by an individual, it came from the Mexican Army. US Gov. is required to buy US equipment unless there is special features that a US company doesn't offer.

I've worked at the nation's only cannon factory for over 30 years as a prototype and R&E toolmaker, 12 years as a quality control inspector and now with Benet' Weapons Lab. This is CARC, perhaps it looks shiney in the photos.

I don't think the Canadian forces used the VW truck, but they still use the VW Iltis.
These things are tough and many have been in service since the late 70's. Real neat heritage.
