Is it possible to change the hydraulic lifters when the engine is in the car ?

Since you can change the push rod tube seals with the engine in the car, I would say yes the lifters could also be changed. Are you sure yours are hydraulic? Stock lifters are solid. If your lifters are in need of changing, then I would suspect that your cam may also need changing. This cannot be done in the car.

yes a magnet on a stick is a wonderful tool

Changing the lifters without changing the cam is a worthless exercise. If the lifters are worn, the cam will be as well.

Hydraulic cam and mechanical lifters is a total mismatch so be sure. yes they can be changed, but konrad is right.

Take two lifters out (careful to keep them in order) and place them end for end up to a light, they should be slightly convex. If dished it's time to start saving for a rebuild.

cant run the stock cam with hydrolic, so you have to change the cam also. cant do just one, they got to work togther.
