Jon,

In my expert opinion...(I've been welding now for 3 or 4 weeks)...maybe they were welding with copper.
I'm not TIG welding yet, but I've heard that copper is awesome with Stainless Steel. The only problem they tell
me about is that once the car is run for a while the copper heats up and may melt. If that starts to happen, just turn
the car off and carefully reform weld with your finger. After doing this 3 or 4 times it won't hurt anymore and you
can do just about anything with that finger without pain. I don't get why. Am I a moron or what.

I'm missing welding class this week. I hope I don't miss too much! blink.gif

I'm not a metal expert, but it is *possible* that this
is just an artifact of the photo. When I take pics
of extremely shiny things, they don't necessarily
look right for a number of reasons like lighting and
what else is reflecting off around there.

Could be copper, I should have said why do they "look" tarnished.

I wonder how long those mufflers maintain their prettiness?
Brad Roberts
They used a welding rod with high copper content.

They will be tarnished in about 3 weeks with road grime and the such.

Close to impossible to keep clean unless you dont drive the car.

Just got back from OTC...

Jon the welds are a different color because the material was already polished before welding, then the part was welded and NOT polished again. The weld in the photo is a computer/robot/machine fusion weld.
