the big bumpers are starting to grow on me Just a bit different from the majority...and I don't have to worry as much about dents or rust

Zach, do you have pics of how the back side looked after removing the beams and how did you mount them to the shocks after that modification?

I think King George spoke about the advantage of these bumpers somewhere. I just can't remember . Maybe it was a podcast. I think he said something about the aerodynamics offset the weight gain. Shoot me if I'm wrong but I swear I remember that because I have them, too. Click to view attachment

Dan I never put up my own post on it,but I know I threw my info out there. If you don't find it I can redo a post later. I designed & built the car with the semi stock d-jet to pass smog & it did! I did the same with my bumpers. I got 11.5#s out of the rear and 6.5 out of the front. I could have done more, but Ididn't want to completely compromise them.

I believe they were 3/4 and 1" and my large drill press. The covers were pretty easy to take off. I left them in the sun for a while. I think I used a screw driver to pop out the center of each rivet. Then just pry off each end. I don't remeber if I wrecked the rivets, but I replaced most of them. I think I got them at local flaps/pep boys.

All that time with a plasma cutter and keep the shocks? No way! Shocks got binned. I made some metal brackets to bolt the bumpers back on. Ditching the shocks saved me a good 20lbs.
Man! The Mesa looks beautiful...makes me miss my home in GJ.
That is interesting, because I went to High School in Norwalk, Ca.
Small world huh? My parents went Norwalk HS and John Glen HS. Class of '72. I went to Fruita Momument Class of '90. I was in GJ 3 weeks ago and didn't see a teener on the road. I was hoping you guys would be out so I could sneek a peek at your rides. I'm not a fan of the BUB's but in my opinion the Ivory White looks the best with them. Good looking car.

Tiny world sometimes! I graduated from Norwalk High in '92! My car no longer looks quite like that....
