I was looking around craigslist last night and saw that someone was having a garage sale today and they had a 914 for sale. I decided to stop by and take a look. It was cool looking (of coarse- its a 914). The lady didn't know a whole lot about it.

I thought that it was somewhat interesting because of the paint scheme. It looks kind of like a reverse bumblebee. The car was clearly repainted at some point and I figured that the person just tried to make it look like a L.E.

I was wondering if Porsche had a factory option in 74 that gave the car a similar paint scheme as the L.E. models. This car yellow, yellow bumpers, yellow pedrinis, 2.0l. the sails are black but it was painted black.

What does everyone think- just a look a like?

I told the lady that I would post it on here to see if we could get the car a nice home. I posted it in the classified section.

Here is a pic however there are more on the above link. Also, could someone please enter the vin into the database. I searched and it wasn't listed. 4742914665

Another thing that I forgot to mention was that one thing that made me curious about this car and the L.E. connection was the vin number. From what I understand, the vins for L.E. cars are supposed to be between 4742914348 to 4742916764. THe vin for this car is right in the middle. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying this is a L.E. car, just curious.

Considering 4742914661 and 4742914667 are both Bumblebees. I would venture to say that it is an LE...perhaps. Maybe someone wanted to reverse the paintjob. I would be jumping all over it, especially if there was no evidence of the lower aluminum sail trim being there!

I would also get in contact with Jeff Bowlsby, and get his input.

Interesting... popcorn[1].gif What front valence did the car have? From the pictures it looks like the wheel-wells are black. Original paint perhaps? idea.gif

Don't go by anything you SEE......Go by the COA from Porsche.....These cars came with all kinds of different options.........

Check the paint code - if it is L041 then it has a pretty good chance of being a Bumble Bee. The targa trim is black. Hard to tell what kind of air dam is on the front but it could be the LE style painted black. Check for the two tabs extending from the torsion bar covers - only the LEs had those.
Of course, to be sure, need to check the COA.

The car had a black L.E. front spoiler.

The wheel wells are definitely black.

When I saw that the sail was painted black, my first impression was that the black sail color was the original color and the yellow was added later. THis was before I thought of the possibility of being a L.E.

I should say that now is not really a good time for me to get another car so I am not very interested. It is still fun to wonder.

I know that it is impossible to tell if a car is L.E. just form looking at it. This one seems strange because there are so many similarities to the L.E. models. Are there any ways to tell for sure if it is an L.E. other than getting a COA? COA's are $100 or so and I don't own the car. I did email the owner and ask her to look up the paint code. I figure that with all the similarities, if it has the l041 code then it must be a bumblebee.

Heres a small up-date. A forum member purchased the car a few days ago. He is going to post pics and info once he pics it up. Hopefully he will let us know if he finds out if it is an LE.
