I may have access to these gears: A, GA, G, S, V, X, ZA. I would have to buy up front then sell to you guys. So that's my hesitation. PM me with your interest and $ you'd spend.

I am not up on the gear lingo but am interestesd in a new top gear cuase I have a buick V6 231 engine in my 914 i want an overdrvie fifth to slow down teh motor rpms on the freeway. are any of these offereings that kind of gear?
Both I and a friend who is building a mid motor V8 kit car (with 901 tranny) would like to get an overdrive fifth gear so potentially two folks need that gear.
let us know if any of these will work.
thanks

ZA (0.7586) is lower than ZD (0.7097) and was so the 914-6 fan would keep higher revs. But you can flip an H or HA set to get a higher 5th gear.
Those give you 0.593 / 0.625 respectively.
Good luck

I would not flip any gears given the torque of a Buick. They thrust in the opposite direction and the tranny is not designed for that.
My info comes from Grady Clay, well known 914 and 911 guy. In fact 908 guy as well.
Is he on this forum? If not, you can find him at Pelican.

Flipping an H or HA in 5th is not a problem. I have never had a failure. It is true that the thrust surfaces are reversed, but due to the ratio it is less of a concern. If one were to try it on a pair whose ratio was farther from 1:1 then you could expect teeth in the oil.
V is a stock gear and pretty useless because all core 901 for 914 have this gear. This is the same for ZD which is stock 5th and A which is stock 1st. Not worth the money to buy separately since you can get them in a core for $50-250 plus a bunch of other good parts.
GA is stock 2nd in a 914-6 box and as mentioned ZA is stock 5th in the same box (for the reasons mentioned).
G may be of interest to some, but I have never needed one in one of my builds.
This leaves you with S and X which is only two of the three needed if you do the common MSX short box conversion. S and X are worth while, you can get $200-250 a set.
Carquip does stock all gears, but price depends on what you want. $650 would be for a more desirable, harder to obtain set. Carquip will also buy your used gears off of you if they are not the aforementioned generic 901 sets. You may do well to get an inventory of gears that you may have access to buy, call Carquip and get a quote, then see if you make any money. That would be the quick way.

Yeah, I'd be interested in gears at some point. But I have no idea when, I don't know what gears cost, I've got no idea of what I may need and I could not commit today.
But it sure would be cool to know you have the gears when I need them. And I think my answer is your hesitation....
