I got the car for free so its not that bad, but this car was definitely loved for a long time before the people before me had it. So far i have found no significant rust but some of the redneckery on this car is just hilarious. Pics will tell some of the story..





I think they got tired of welding half way through, and thought "screw it we'll rivet the top"
Anyway with the firewall being hacked to all hell and planning on doing a v8 conversion do i need to relocate the water pump or just cut out whats already "gone" and weld a box around it?
I know its long winded but, thanks for your input.

Buy a used firewall and replace it. Check Renegade for the parts you need to relocate the water pump.

The stock water pump comes through the firewall about 4 inches... I would relocate the pump and replace the firewall unless you are short.

not only does using a stock water pump put the water pump in the passenger cabin - it makes installing the engine more tricky.

Fire wall looks like a true custom job. Maybe they ran out of welding wire??? If you weld in the stock piece, the engine will fit by moving the tranny back 1.25 inches and using the remote water pump.

Its because I have more power than you






On a more serious note. If you use tall valve covers the drivers side recess for the seat needs to be bumped in about an inch. Something to consider when your welding in the new firewall.


Note the left valve cover and how close it is to the firewall. That is pushed back about an inch and a half.

Hey Jim what kind of pulley setup is that?
I'm not necessarily trying to cut corners or anything just reviewing some options since the car is already hacked.
I can see how a stock water pump would sit by looking at Jim's pic but that setup is definitely doable.

my pump was given to me froma friend who called it a sbc short pump.

note that whate ever engine bar you get, you will need the corresponding trans mounts - as they measurements go hand in hand. my buddy made both for my car - so dims are slightly different than that of renegade's stuff.

i would go all renegade if i were to do it again.

I moved my firewall out 1" and added an access panel; actually two access panels. One for the serpentine drive, and the other for the thermostat housing and its hose. If it looks a bit odd, thats because mine is an LS1 swap as opposed to the more traditional SBC swap. I retained the stock water pump and reconfigured the serpentine drive to fit the 914 firewall. BTW, the 914 backpad still fits and has a bit of a somewhat un-noticeable gap that I will fill with some sort of vinyl covered spacer.
