Replacing KYB's with new Bils but don't know what to do about not having the knurled thingy on the shaft of the Bils that the KYB has which supports the rubber snubber.
Tried to get it off but it won't move. Do I need the rubber and, if so, should I replace the knurled thingy with a washer with which to support the rubber snubber?

i don't think you have to support the snubber, it can just ride on the shaft.

you definitely need it, even if your car isn't really low, you don't want the shock compressing all the way. The spring rate would go to infinity and the shock will probably be toast.

just slide it on and forget about it. If you are lowering the car, you might want to trim the rubber in half to maintain enough travel.
