the first run on the 914 and it looks great. FYI for those that have one, If you do the firmware update it will reset to default RES. Still HD but not 1080p so I'll have to do it again aktion035.gif

More to come, still figuring it out, Thanks again Shoe!!!!!

I'll bet you didn't even see that OC Sheriff hiding behind that Oak Tree!!?? blink.gif
.... breaker, breaker - he would've nailed ya too on the way back, if he hadn't spilled his doughnut & hot coffee all over hissef when you blew by in that bright yellow screamer! lol-2.gif

Hey Andy (shades of Mayberry RFD) - I recall the "other" mfgr. which makes the duals (4 pipe) 914 exhausts that I was trying to remember last week - Anza! Good thing that the "other half" of my half-zymers kicks in every once in awhile! lol-2.gif

Yeah, I drive this road alot and know where I can open it up and where not to. Only so many places to hide. This was more of a test and to keep the camera attached unsure.gif

Camera is in a sealed box that is water proof to 180ft. Most likely he used the suction cup mount. I have personally tested it to 125mph.

Shoe.....of course your 125mph test was on a "closed circuit with a professional driver" wasn't it??? driving.gif

Jim,
The camera comes with an elaborate suction cup mount that is really quite impressive. Nicho mounted mine to the kitchen table and I thought we were never going to get it off...

I can not tell a lie, It was tested on the Cherohala Skyway by a rookie in a Boxster S aktion035.gif

I have not tried the suction-cup mount but am going to someday soon. I've used the (optional) rollcage mount, which is fine, as well as the tripod mount on an I/O port camera mount, which is rock-solid and multi-axis adjustable.

I also have snorkeled with it down to 20+ feet with no leakage at all.

Cool little cameras.

Re. the video settings - I have mainly been using 720p 60frames/sec because (a) it is wider perspective than 1080p mode and (sunglasses.gif it seems like you get smoother motion at high-speeds and you can also play it back at 30 frames/sec for 1/2 speed slow motion, which is kinda cool sometimes.

I still want to get a data acquisition system so I can overlay data onto the video, but many other things have dibs on the ol' bank account first.
ottox914
Cool stuff! Mine just arrived today.

Were those done with the open back or closed back?

We have an autox double header in 2 weeks. Should be just enough time to figure out how that little beastie works and get some cool angles on the events.

GoPro suggests using the open back (when exposed vs inside a car) up to 100mph and the closed back over 100mph, but in my tests the wind noise was pretty bad with the open back at 'only' 60-70mph.

I use the open back when it is inside the car and that works great, although my car is so loud that it can cause clipping of the sound.

I really wish they had external mic inputs because of course the tiny built-in mic is pretty lame and you cannot move it around or get stereo separation as you could with external mics. At this price point it is a small thing to whine about...
Socalandy
I did use the suction mount and the closed back. the 720 looks good but I like the 1080 look myself but I'll compare both when I make the run again.
