All...

I know we just got back from MUSR 11, but we need to start planning for next year.

I am looking for suggestions for an event location.

Requirements:

1. Lots of Twisties.
2. Within about a day's drive from Dallas.
3. Lots of Twisties.
4. Someplace we haven't been before.
5. Lots of Twisties.
6. Possibly a small 50 room hotel we could invade for a few days.
7. Lots of Twisties.
8. Someone local to plan tour routes.
9. Lots of Twisties.
10. A big parking lot for the car show and the blind AX.

So...Y'all break out the maps and start looking. The reason for the requirement of a day's drive from Dallas is this is supposed to be the MID US Ramble. I am all for going east a day to get everyone from that part of the country.

When we get some suggestions, I will post a poll.

Texas Hill Country.

Maybe Eureka Springs, Ar....Going to the Palooza there and they have some nice drives....I'll check out the area while I'm there.....Vic Elford is the guest speaker... http://www.pca-palooza.com

Here are a few in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri.

Funny, I was looking at the Ozark Highlands region of Missouri on that site while you were posting that. Seems like a lot of potential in that area.

Grabbed this from http://www.motorcycleroads.us/regions/mo_highlands.html

By the way - Red = twisties, Blue = Sweepers, Green = Scenic
We could drive for days!!!

The very 1st Mid-West Renegade Festival in '95 was in Lake Ozark, MO. Great roads, and we got very lucky with the host facility.

I've always thought that Tunica/Robinsonville MS would be a good choice. With the casinos there, surely a nice hotel with the required amenities could be found.

Maybe for once in 10 years, I could clone myself and be able to attend!

Isn't that what MUS stands for in MUSR? blink.gif driving.gif

I want to be able to go next year!

Clay- a suggestion for nametags next go-round would be to include web names, since few of us (at least me!) know the cast of characters. I learned a few web handles this trip, and can associate a few with their rides, and that helps add a face to the faceless here!

Texas Hill Country.

GASP ... they have hills in Tejas?
rick 918-S
Black Hills area SD. Spearfish, Deadwood, Sturgis area. And I would volenteer to be on the planning committee and do a couple recon missions to find great driving roads. Hotels and tourist stuff should not be an issue. BTW: that's a serious commitment. It's 800 miles one way, hotels stays and a bunch of extra driving in the area.
bandjoey
The Buffalo River area in Missouri. I'll do a little map searching and post later.

Texas Hill country is know for its twisties. The motorcycle people are out here every weekend. Oh, did I mention I live in the Texas Hill country.

No twisties in Tunica, but we could easily travel east of Memphis and get some great roads. Oklahoma, Arkansas line and the Missouri boothill would be nice. I was looking at the hills of Texas earlier today. Colorado would be awesome as well. Hell, my car travels well, don't really care where you put it. I do agree it needs to move around some so everybody can attend sooner or later.

That area would be awesome. Its on my list of places to eventually go to. Its only a 27 hour drive for me. It may be a little too far for some but I'd definitely be down.
hot_shoe914
I'm thinking Mountain Home, Ar. Great roads, beautiful scenery, lots of twisties.
Amy
could we add a new member map link.

i have found a mapping program

http://www.zeemaps.com/

it may help us determine a good central location for the most people.
ClayPerrine
Much as I like the Texas Hill country, it is out because it would be way too far for the new people we got this year.

Missouri looks good... I like the idea of Lake Ozark.

Perry, do you still have the tour maps from that Renegade meet?

Brett W
I'm thinking Huntsville, AL. Its a great location. Plus my tow rig won't need a small tanker truck following to get there. I try to avoid areas west of Missisippi until I get to CO. tongue.gif

What about the Red River Gorge area in Kentucky? I have driven through there before seemed nice. Perhaps something in southern west Virginia, but that kinda rules out the guys from Texas and Oaklahoma.

I think we need two Midwest Rambles. We need Mid west and a Mid East Ramble. That way we can cover both areas in the middle. Now of course a Southeast Ramble will be mandatory, a California Ramble because there are so many of these cars out there, and we don't worry about those folks up North, they can come down here where they don't salt the roads.
carr914
Really don't know a lot about the area, but how about the Florida Panhandle? This time of year the weather is Great. Some beautiful beeches, some non-Florida-ish terrain, gotta be some twisties up there.

I haven't seen any. I am sure there are a lot of county roads I haven't driven, but from what I have seen there are no real twisties. Beautiful beaches for sure though and plenty of delicious sea food.

If there is someone who wants to organize an East Coast Ramble, I will be happy to coach them for the first event. I would love to have an event out there.

But you have to get your own travelling awards.... like the Crimson Shaft, the Elegance Award, and the Hildreth Award.

Eureka Springs Ar. is the place to come. Hi I am Bob McCool aka Biker Bob. I live in Eureka and own the Riders Rest Motel.

We have the most twisties in the Ozarks.

We are a days drive from Dallas as well as many other cities.

Hopefully you have not been here before.

My motel along with the ajacent motel can provied the required rooms at reasonable rates. I am avaliable to co-ordinate local arrangments and will gladly provide tour maps of the most agressive and senic routes. We have lots of parking. We are located near the edge of town away from the sometimes conjested downtown area. We have outdoor areas for you to kick back with a camp fire, a beer, and friends.

I will have to work on a location for the A/X We are located on top of a mountian but I have something in mind.

Our historic district is listed on the National Historic Register. We are a quite Victorian Village blessed with the best touring roads in the Ozarks. We have roads that rival Deals Gap except they go on and on with very little traffic. A different tour route everyday.

Here are some websites you might want to visit.

eurekasprings.org
Crusing the Ozarks
Arkansas Parks & Tourism (watch the Let's Ride video)
ridersrestmotel.com
countrymountianinn.com/

Although some information is directed at motorcycles you will get the an idea of what to expect.

Yes I know my website says Bikers Only but I am willing to make my one exception for 914's.

I wish thank everyone who helped me through the restoration of my 72 2.0 L. It would have bee much harder with all the help from this sight. Choose Eureka for
MUSR 12 and I know everyone will have a great time. Bob

You have my vote. Somebody had told me about your motel but I don't remember who. The roads are without a doubt some of the best in the central US and the beauty of the Ozarks is hard to beat. One of the reasons the 2nd largest Porsche gatherings takes place there every year with Porsche Palooza. Not sure your motel would meet our needs though as we like to have our awards banquet on site so everybody can get their drink on & not have to drive afterwards. Maybe you have a place we could have it catered in & I just don't know about it. I will contact you and get more info if the general consensus agrees on the location.

Clay et al,

This sounds like a great location! I just hope we get our car our of the paint shop in time to put it back together for the MUSR 12. Donna said that she might even have to get a wrench out to help make sure we get it back together in time for this event.

When is this due to happen? The AR venue is only 15 hours from me so I can be in if I am not on a rotation that does not allow vacation.

Nashville is about as centrally located in the eastern 1/2 as you get (draw a 500 mile radius around it on a map and see what I mean).

Great roads around there.

2nd and Broadway offer up tons of entertainment and eateries.

A day trip to Jack Daniels is not out of the realm of possibilities.

Something for everyone.

You guys do "well run, well organized" events. I'd say one there might draw the most number of cars and participants.

I've talked to Bob on the phone several times. He's a standup guy, and the roads there are as good as they get. Banquet should not be a problem. There are plenty of places in Eureka that can cater. If not, I'll bring a couple of my smokers and fix you some championship BBQ. Let me know when you wanna go Clay, and I'll meet ya there.
Brett W
I think I have heard of this place. Saw it on TV one time. Sounds like a nice place. They have a big fire pit for sitting around at nights and socializing and such. From what I it was a pretty cool place, even if it is in Arkansas. tongue.gif

Will this likely be held in October again?
If so, I guess the possibilities would be:
10/6 - 9 (Columbus day weekend. Good or bad?)
10/13 - 16 (equivalent to MUSR11 dates)
10/20 - 23

ClayPerrine
We are going to Eureka Springs. I am waiting to hear back from Ron Mott (who is still looking for his steering wheel) as to the dates for Porsche palooza. We don't want to step on that date.

It will be in October, sometime around the MUSR dates from this year.

Keep your eyes peeled.
