1. Is there some type of support that goes under it? I see two clips on the bottom, but I don't have anything to clip it to.

2. One of the clips that holds the lid on is missing the top half -- in other words, only 3 clips are doing anything. Is there a more elegant solution than bending a coathanger?

1. Yes, there is a bracket that attaches to the driver side intake runner.

2. Yes, find someone that will sell or give you a clip.
